[a new year's greeting..happy 2012] dallas fort worth photographer

“The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination…”

Many of you who are photographers know getting your own Christmas card finished and mailed on time can be near impossible some years.  It reminds me of the old adage “the shoemaker’s children have no shoes”.  This season was a particularly busy one, for both good and bad reasons.   So instead of foregoing a card altogether, I decided to send a New Year’s greeting card.  I am really pleased with how it turned out and enjoyed not having another deadline to meet.

As the quote above says, our lessons come from the journey, not the destination; 2011 was a year of amazing accomplishments and opportunities for my family, but it was also a year filled with health issues for some of those closest to me.  What I have learned so far in life is that no year is ever perfect.  No life is ever perfect.  We become who we are through both our joys and sorrows, our successes and failures alike.  Every time I have grown in spirit, it has been through adversity, not triumph.  I have begun to view hard times as moments to expand in compassion, for in those moments I am faced with a problem; my capacity for empathy increases-drawing me out of myself and forcing me to see others around me more clearly.

I hope your journey in the 2012 brings you many, many blessings and joys.  And if you do face some unforeseen challenge, may you find the peace, wisdom and strength to grow from it.  Happy New Year!!

[a little bit of christmas decor…] dallas fort worth photography

Well, I am certainly behind on blogging, but I wanted go ahead and share a few of our Christmas images.  I absolutely LOVE decorating for the holidays.  This year  I decorated our front sitting room tree vintage style, with tones of cream, black, vintage metals and red.  It was a fun change from our traditional tree!  We didn’t decorate as much because we surprised the little ones with a trip to Disney as a Christmas treat!  I have always loved Disneyworld, but had never been during Christmas.  It’s safe to say that I never want to go at any other time of year again. Only Disney could make Christmas more magical!  The lights were out of this world and they even made it snow in Florida! ;)   I plan to share more of those images soon.  I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday!!

I hope you all had a fun and safe Halloween! Here is a little peek at ours and how we like to celebrate. Grace chose to be a witch at the last minute so she had two costumes this year! lol (girls) Colton was an alien-fitting since he turned 13 this summer! :) This was our first Halloween in the new neighborhood and we absolutely loved it! The kids have never gotten so much candy, ever!! We will be rationing it for months.
